Hair Salon Prices in Irvine: What You Should Expect to Pay

Most Irvine salons will not publish a price list. Here is ours in full — cuts, color, balayage, smoothing, makeup and bridal — checked against the California averages, plus an honest explanation of why so many prices end in a plus sign.

Inside Kija Hair Salon in Irvine, California — styling stations, lit mirrors and retail hair care shelves

Most salons in Irvine will not put a price list online. You call, or you fill in a form, and someone gets back to you — which is fine if you already know what you want, and no help at all if you are trying to work out whether a service is within your budget before you spend an afternoon on it.

So here is our full price list, and an honest look at how those numbers compare to what the rest of California charges.

How this compares to the rest of California

It is worth knowing whether a quote is reasonable before you accept it, so here is the outside data rather than our opinion of ourselves.

StyleSeat, which draws on its own booking records, puts the California average for highlights at around $200, and full balayage in California at roughly $208, with partial balayage around $197. Our full highlights and balayage both start at $200, and our partial highlights start at $90.

On haircuts, the cost guide at Fash puts California salon haircuts in the $50 to $120 range, against a national average of roughly $45 to $75 for a women's cut and $25 to $50 for a men's. Our women's cut starts at $60 and includes the wash, blow-dry and style. Our men's cut is $40 flat.

The short version: we sit at or below the California average on most services. We are not the cheapest chair in Irvine and we do not try to be — there are $20 cuts in this city. We aim to be the honest middle, where an experienced stylist is doing the work and the price is not padded.

Why so many prices end in a plus sign

A starting price is not a bait. It is an admission that three people asking for "balayage" can need very different amounts of time and product.

Three things move a color or smoothing price more than anything else:

  • Length. Hair past the shoulder blades can take more than twice the product of a bob, and proportionally longer to apply.
  • Density. Two people with the same length can need very different amounts of product. Thick hair takes longer to section and saturate.
  • Condition and chemical history. Previously lightened or chemically straightened hair needs a more careful approach, and sometimes repair work before the service you asked for is appropriate at all.

This is also why a firm quote over text is usually guesswork. You can send three photographs and still get the number wrong, because density and coarseness are assessed by touch. A guess given sight-unseen gets revised on the day, and that is how people end up feeling ambushed at the counter.

We would rather look at your hair, give you the real figure, and let you decide. A consultation costs nothing but the trip.

If keratin smoothing is what brought you here, we wrote a longer piece on exactly what moves that number: How Much Does a Keratin Treatment Cost in Irvine?

What is not on the list

Two of our private rooms are run by independent professionals who set their own pricing — Talin, and Ghazaleh of Clay Skincare. Their services are not on our list because they are not ours to quote. Barbering is handled separately through Reza Barber.

How booking works here

Every professional at Kija is independent and keeps their own book, so you book directly with the stylist rather than through a front desk. That is why there is no single phone queue and no deposit system — you are arranging a time with the person who will be doing your hair.

Each stylist's own contact details are on Meet Our Team. If you would rather put your question in writing first, send us a message and we will reply in writing.

The full, current list always lives on our services and pricing page. Prices on this page were accurate in September 2026.

We are at 13925 Yale Ave, Suite 150, Irvine, CA 92620, open Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm.
