MUCOTA Hair Treatment Guide: Promille Treatment vs. CS+DD Oil

MUCOTA Promille Hair Treatment vs. CS+DD Oil Treatment: which one your hair needs, what’s in each, how to use them together, and the shampoo to pair with them now that Promille Shampoo is discontinued.

A drop of hair oil above a glossy strand of hair, black and white — MUCOTA hair care guide, Kija Hair Salon

MUCOTA is a Japanese salon hair care brand, and we carry two of its treatments at Kija Hair Salon in Irvine: the Promille Hair Treatment, a rich rinse-out for dry or damaged hair, and the CS+DD Oil Treatment, a leave-in seaweed oil for color-treated and straightened hair. They do different jobs and work well together. Here is how they differ, what’s in each, and how to use them together.

The short answer: the Promille Hair Treatment is for wash day, after shampoo; the CS+DD Oil is the leave-in you smooth through damp ends before drying. If your whole head feels dry after washing, start with Promille. If your ends are color-treated, straightened or dry, start with CS+DD.

Promille Hair Treatment: The Wash-Day Rinse-Out

Promille is MUCOTA’s line for dry, damaged hair. The Promille Hair Treatment is a rinse-out treatment blended with shea butter and a long list of plant oils (argan, jojoba, camellia, avocado, rosehip, rice germ, sunflower, grape seed, meadowfoam and evening primrose), plus chamomile, calendula, linden and cornflower extracts. It has a light peach-and-osmanthus scent.

How to use it: after shampooing, work an appropriate amount through your hair, then rinse with warm water. Because it uses natural ingredients, a jar can occasionally show small clumps or a slight change in color or scent; that doesn’t affect quality.

Good to know: our supplier can no longer get Promille, so the few treatments we have left are the last ones.

MUCOTA CS+DD Oil Treatment: The Daily Leave-In

The CS+DD Oil Treatment is from MUCOTA’s Color Straight Plus range. It combines linseed oil, which contains omega-3 fatty acids, with Gagome kombu and Karafuto kombu seaweed extracts to give damaged ends moisture and shine and to help protect the hair. It is made for hair that has been colored, straightened or chemically processed.

How to use it: apply a small amount to towel-dried hair, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends. It spreads more easily on damp hair. Comb through, then dry and style as usual; there is nothing to rinse out.

The formula is silicone-based (cyclopentasiloxane and dimethicone come first on the label), which is what gives the smooth, glossy finish. If you avoid silicones, check the full ingredient list on the product page.

What Happened to Promille Shampoo?

Promille Shampoo (200 g) is sold out, and our supplier can no longer get it, so we won’t be restocking it. For a Japanese shampoo to use before the Promille Treatment, we suggest the Amatora QUO Hair Bath. Our guide to the best Japanese shampoos compares more options.
