Amatora QUO ColamasQ: The Collagen Hair Mask for Color-Treated Hair

Amatora QUO ColamasQ is a collagen treatment mask for colored or permed hair, not an everyday conditioner. How it differs from KitomasQ, how to use it once or twice a week, and who it suits.

Woman working conditioner through wet hair — Amatora QUO ColamasQ guide, Kija Hair Salon

Amatora QUO ColamasQ is the richest product in Amatora’s Japanese QUO line: a collagen treatment mask for hair that has been colored, permed or straightened and now feels dry, rough or dull. It is not an everyday conditioner. It is the once-or-twice-a-week step that restores moisture and helps color last. Here is how it works and how to use it.

What it is

ColamasQ is a cream treatment mask in a 250 g (8.8 oz) jar, priced at $55. Amatora designed it to help balance the hair’s pH after a perm or color service, condition and smooth the texture, and help prevent color from fading. There are no silicones in the ingredient list, so the softness comes from conditioning ingredients rather than a coating.

Key ingredients, in plain terms

  • Hydrolyzed collagen: the ingredient the name comes from, used for moisture and a smoother, bouncier feel.
  • Keratin and hydrolyzed keratin: conditioning proteins for hair weakened by chemical services.
  • Hematin and humus extract (a source of fulvic acid): the signature pair in every QUO product.
  • Argan oil, shea butter, jojoba oil and squalane: rich oils and butters for dry lengths.
  • Scent: bergamot, lemongrass, lime and lemon peel oils.

One thing worth knowing: the formula includes orange roughy oil, which comes from a fish, so ColamasQ is not vegan. The full ingredient list is on the product page.

ColamasQ or KitomasQ?

The names look almost the same on the shelf, but they do different jobs.

Product What it is How often
QUO KitomasQ ($50) Everyday conditioner After every wash
QUO ColamasQ ($55) Collagen treatment mask Once or twice a week

If your hair is badly damaged, use both: KitomasQ after each wash, and ColamasQ in place of it once or twice a week. If you only buy one and your hair is very dry or coarse, start with ColamasQ.

How to use it

  1. Shampoo, ideally with QUO Hair Bath, and gently squeeze out excess water.
  2. Apply ColamasQ through your hair, starting with the most damaged parts, usually the ends.
  3. Wrap your hair in a warm towel and leave the mask on for 3 to 5 minutes.
  4. Massage it in, then rinse gently.

Right after a color or perm appointment is the best time to start, because that is when your hair needs the pH balance and moisture most.

Who it is for

  • Color-treated, bleached or highlighted hair that fades fast
  • Hair that feels dry, rough or brittle after a perm or straightening
  • Coarse or thick hair that needs a richer treatment than a conditioner

If your hair is fine and goes flat easily, a rich mask can weigh it down. The weightless Amatora OQ Leave-In Treatment Mousse is usually the better choice.

ColamasQ FAQ
