Amatora QUO Hair Bath: What It Does, Who It Is For and How to Use It

What Amatora QUO Hair Bath is, its key ingredients in plain terms, who it suits, and the double-wash method that gets the most from this silicone-free Japanese shampoo for color-treated hair.

Woman smoothing a wash through long wet hair — Amatora QUO Hair Bath guide, Kija Hair Salon

Amatora QUO Hair Bath is the Japanese shampoo our clients ask about most, and our best-selling shampoo online. “Hair Bath” is simply the Japanese salon word for shampoo. This one is made for color-treated hair: it cleanses the scalp gently, and over a few weeks it leaves hair softer, shinier and easier to manage. Here is what is in it, who it suits, and how to get the most out of a bottle.

What it is

QUO Hair Bath is the shampoo in Amatora’s QUO range, a Japanese salon line built to care for hair that has been colored or chemically treated. It is silicone-free and paraben-free, so it does not coat the hair to fake smoothness. Instead it relies on keratin, amino acids and plant oils. It comes in a 375 ml (12.6 fl oz) bottle and costs $58.

Key ingredients, in plain terms

  • Hematin and humus extract (a source of fulvic acid): the signature pair in every QUO product, used to condition and smooth color-treated hair.
  • Keratin and apple amino acids: the cleansers are built on amino acids and keratin rather than harsh detergents, which is why hair feels soft rather than squeaky after washing.
  • Squalane and jojoba seed oil: light oils for moisture and manageability without a heavy feel.
  • Herbal extracts: arnica, chamomile, calendula, sage, mallow and horsetail, with a fresh bergamot, lemongrass and lime scent.

It is free of sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate. The full ingredient list is on the product page.

Who it is for

  • Color-treated, highlighted or balayage hair you want to stay vibrant for longer
  • Hair that feels dry, rough or brittle after bleach, perms or straightening
  • Mature hair that has lost shine and softness
  • Anyone who wants a silicone-free shampoo that still leaves hair smooth

If your scalp is very oily or flaky, start with a scalp-specific shampoo instead and use QUO on your lengths, or ask us what fits.

How to use it: double shampoo

This is the step most people skip, and it makes the biggest difference.

  1. Wet your hair thoroughly with warm water.
  2. Massage a small amount into your scalp, work it through your hair, and rinse. This first wash lifts oil and styling product.
  3. Apply a second time, massage again, and leave it on for 2 to 3 minutes before rinsing. The second wash is the one that does the work.

Because the double wash uses more product, a smaller amount each time goes further than one large pump.

Build the routine around it

QUO is designed to work as a set. Follow the Hair Bath with QUO KitomasQ ($50) after every wash, add QUO ColamasQ ($55) once or twice a week if your hair is badly damaged, and finish with the OQ Leave-In Treatment Mousse ($52) on damp hair. Our guide to which Amatora QUO you need explains each one and the order to use them in.
